The Canned Peaches Project was started by Theresa Rickloff in March 2019. It started by asking the question, “how does my grandmother’s food affect my life today?”
We interview people who want to share stories and recipes from their grandmothers. Then we recreate a recipe, and look into the history of the dish, and talk about the grandmother’s life.
Chefs, restaurants, cooks, and writers so often cite their grandmas as their biggest influence. Well, who was she and what did she make? We want to find out.
We’re looking to tell true stories that don’t always get told, and preserve cherished recipes while making them more accessible to today’s cooks.
Theresa Rickloff, Creator & Head Writer
Theresa Rickloff grew up in Ann Arbor, MI, a chatty child with an early love for writing, reading and cooking. She received her bachelors in Language, Literature & Writing from Eastern Michigan University in 2008, then moved across the country to Portland, OR to attend Le Cordon Bleu culinary school and work in the vibrant farm-to-table restaurant scene. She’s served the roles of baker, pickler, pie-maker & head chef. She’s always excited to share a meal and a slice of food history with friends. Or to talk about the neighborhood trees.
Kiley Melicker, Photographer
Kiley Melicker is super nice. All the good food photography on the site is hers (all the crappy photography was taken using Theresa’s phone.)
